Shawn Camp: Taken Off The Shelf
Interview with Shawn Camp, who had his album "shelfed" or is it "shelved" 16 years ago, tried to buy the master tape back and finally got the thing released. Check out the Mountain Stage performance by Shawn. According to my pal Bill Wallace, conisor of good songwriting, Shawn and Paul Overstreet delivered a dynamic unplugged, stripped-down, songwriter's show in Nashville last year.
Its a fine thing when somebody (Shawn Camp) says, okay, cancell my contract. I won't sell out just to have radio hits. I'm not changing something of quality to turn it into something commercial. Integrity is of value.

The tradition of "hillbilly variety shows" goes way back. Country music and corny humor go hand in hand. It reached its peak with "Hee Haw" which ran strong from 15. Juni 1969 till 27. Dezember 1992. The hosts were Roy Clark and Buck Owens. There were a bunch of shows with a similar format, Laugh In was the urban equivalent.
